Leatherman Juice XE6 vs Wave are two multi-tools of different sizes with similar features. Leatherman Juice XE6 is actually the largest model available in the Juice series of compact pocket multi-tools, but it is still not as large as the Wave. It does come at a lower price point. On the other hand, Leatherman Wave is a popular full-sized multi-tool that is loved by many due to the build quality and versatility. Which is the one that you should choose? See the detailed comparisons below!
Size and Weight
The first difference between Leatherman Juice XE6 vs Wave is the size. Leatherman Juice XE6 is much smaller and slimmer. The compact design will allow you to pocket it very comfortably. This pocket-sized multi-tool only measures 3.25 inches long when folded. It is also a little bit lighter at 6.9 oz (195 grams).
On the other hand, Leatherman Wave is a full-sized multi-tool. It is a little bigger, but it is still portable and easy to carry around. When folded, it measures 4 inches long. It is only about 46 grams heavier than the Juice, at 8.5 oz (241 grams). You will not notice the weight difference. See also: Leatherman Wave vs Signal.
Design and Ease of Use
Leatherman Juice XE6 is consistent with the core idea of the series. It is a simple and practical multi-tool. It does not have many fancy features, except for the outside-accessible blades. This is a nice touch that makes the multi-tool even more practical. It is an ideal choice for casual EDC purposes.
On the other hand, Leatherman Wave is quite more sophisticated. The Wave is optimized to allow easy one-handed operation. This design is very useful when you are dealing with a situation that requires your hands to multi-task. In addition, the Wave does have outside-accessible tools, which means that you can take out individual tools from the device without having to unfold it first. It is very efficient. All the tools are lockable for safe operation.
When choosing between these two models, consider whether you need something for only light tasks or you need a tough, rugged multi-tool. If you will only use it for casual uses such as cutting papers and cardboards, Leatherman Juice XE6 is sufficient. However, this compact model won’t be able to withstand heavy tasks, so don’t over-abuse it.
Leatherman Wave should be your choice for more serious tasks. The whole device does feel more solid and durable. The plier heads and blades are tougher.
Both models come with the regular and needlenose pliers, wire cutters, hard wire cutters, spring-action scissors, plain and serrated knives, saw, can and bottle openers, wood/metal file, and diamond-coated file. However, note that the tools on Leatherman Wave are tougher and the wire cutters are replaceable.
Leatherman Juice XE6 is further equipped with an awl, a corkscrew for opening corked bottles, and four screwdrivers. On the other hand, Leatherman Wave features a wire stripper, a ruler, a medium screwdriver, and two bit drivers.
