Leatherman Micra vs Gerber Dime

Leatherman Micra and Gerber Dime are two pocket-sized multi-tools from two competing manufacturers that are available in a similar price range. These ultra-compact and lightweight multi-tools are both very popular on the market. However, they do come with different features, benefits, and weaknesses. Continue reading below to see the comparisons between Leatherman Micra vs Gerber Dime and decide which one is the most suitable for you.

Different Heads and Tools
The first significant difference between Leatherman Micra vs Gerber Dime is their heads. Leatherman Micra comes with scissors heads, and it does not have any plier. On the other hand, Gerber Dime comes with plier heads and integrated scissors.

So, you have to question yourself whether you need the pliers or not. If you do, you should choose Gerber Dime. If you don’t really need the pliers, you may want to choose Leatherman Micra, whose scissors are equipped with a nice spring-action mechanism. It is also more compact and efficient. Leatherman Micra and Gerber Dime only have few similar tools, which include the tweezers, bottle opener, fine-edged blade, and key ring attachment. Note that Leatherman Micra’s tweezers are integrated to the body, so you won’t accidentally lose them. Gerber Dime’s tweezers have a higher risk of getting lost due to the detachable design.

The other features of Leatherman Micra include a 4.7-inch ruler, a nail file, a nail cleaner, and three screwdrivers. On the other hand, Gerber Dime comes with wire cutters, a package opener, a coarse/fine file, a cross driver, and a medium flat-head driver.

Size and Weight
Both of the two models are compact and lightweight. They are very easy to carry around. That said, Leatherman Micra is actually smaller and lighter than Gerber Dime. This is apparently because Leatherman Micra does not have the plier heads. The length of Leatherman Micra is only 2.5 inches when folded, and the weight is barely 1.8 oz. It is a very convenient multi-tool.

Meanwhile, Gerber Dime is slightly bigger and heavier than the Micra, but it is still very portable. The closed length is 2.75 inches, and the total length when unfolded is 4.25 inches. The weight is approximately 2.2 oz.

Keep in mind that both of these multi-tools are only suitable for light-duty tasks. There is some trade-off between the portability and durability. They are not suitable for heavy-duty tasks such as prying and taking out tough nails.

Warranty
Both Leatherman Micra and Gerber Dime have excellent warranties and customer service quality. Leatherman Micra is backed by a 25-year limited warranty which covers defects on materials and workmanship. Many people have positively rated Leatherman’s customer service quality.

Gerber Dime has a slightly better warranty because it has a lifetime limited warranty in North America. It also covers defects in materials and workmanship. However, for other countries outside of North America, the warranty is also 25 years.
