Dimensions
The first thing that we can compare between Leatherman MUT and Leatherman Charge is the dimensions. For many people, portability is a very important factor. They need something that can be carried around without hindering their movements.

Leatherman MUT has a slim design, but it is longer and heavier. When closed, it measures about 5 inches (12.7 cm). The weight is approximately 11.2 oz (317.5 grams). The long, heavy body may make it more difficult to pocket. However, you can attach it to your belt or backpack, as it comes with a nice carabiner.

Leatherman Charge is actually available in two variants, ALX and TTi. In this article, we will focus with LeathermanTTi, which comes with the complete set of tools.See also: Leatherman Wave vs Charge ALX.

In general, Leatherman Charge is more compact and lightweight than the MUT. The closed length is only about 4 inches (10 cm), and the weight is about 8.89 oz (252 grams). It is still pretty bulky and heavy, but it is definitely more portable than the MUT.

Design
Leatherman MUT is somewhat different than the typical Leatherman multi-tool, as it comes with a black-and-bronze body. The unique color scheme makes it look classy. It has an integrated carabiner, which may be handy in some cases. It also has a replaceable pocket clip.

Leatherman MUT does allow one-handed operation, but unfortunately it doesn’t have outside-accessible tools. In other words, you have to fully unfold it to access one of the tools.

On the other hand, Leatherman Charge does look like the typical Leatherman multi-tool, but it has a pair of handle scales which enhance the handling, provide protection, and make it stand out from the rest. It has a pocket clip and a quick-release lanyard ring for easy carrying.

Leatherman Charge’s design allows one-handed operation. It has outside-accessible tools, which means that you can take out individual tools without having to fully unfold the device. This is a great feature for some people. All the tools are locking to ensure secure operation.

Features
Leatherman MUT comes with 16 built-in tools. It has regular and needlenose pliers, regular and hard wire cutters, standed wire cutters, an electrical crimper, a saw, a replaceable cutting hook, a combo knife, a carabiner/bottle opener, a hammer, and a set of weapon cleaning tools. The package further includes a 3/8” wrench and a front sight adjustment accessory.

Leatherman MUT’s feature set does look attractive. The pliers and wire cutters are tough and durable. However, the hammer doesn’t look very sturdy. The weapon cleaning tools are not very useful because you rarely need to clean your weapons on the field. When you are not on the field, using the real set is much more convenient.

Leatherman Charge’s feature set includes 19 built-in tools. There are regular and needlenose pliers, regular and hard wire cutters, a wire stripper, a crimper, plain and serrated knives, a saw, a cutting hook, spring-action scissors, a ruler, can and bottle openers, two files, two drivers, and a medium screwdriver. In general, this feature set is more useful and versatile.
