Multi Tools

As an active person, we meet various events out there from the fun thing to the annoying things, all are possible when you spend the time doing activities. While our body is very much capable of doing so many tasks without additional help, it doesn’t mean everything is possible with only our hand because this is not always the case. For example, we may be able to lift a quite heavy weight but our hand is not made to fasten or loosen screws.

To undo your screws or to plant it on an object we need something that can fit on its head and transfer our motion which is why screwdriver is often necessary in tons of applications, even around the house. While it is possible to bring a set of tools with you to work or when doing the activity, not all of us are willing to do so. Such as an office worker who is doing a desk job won’t need to bring a full-size tool box.

If you are a handyman or working on repairing or building stuff then it is just normal to bring a collection of full-size tools because they are the equipment we are using everyday yet, since not all of us are falling in this category, we need something to bridge between the convenient tools and convenient of carry which bring us to a multi tool. This is a very useful piece of equipment that almost everyone can use and benefit from.

As the name suggests this is a collection of tools but to make them convenient, the shape and size are significantly reduced. They are very compact and thin in general so the amount can be stacked together or layered with one another without cluttering the mechanism. The idea of a multi tool is to provide users with the type of tools they need without having to carry a pouch or tool box. The mechanism is also made to be simple to ease it being deployed anytime.

Those who can benefit from a multi tools are people who are not doing a full repairing stuff everyday since if this is you then a full-size tools will be much more reliable but, if you are an outdoor or active people who love outdoor activities then carrying one can be a life-safer when you need to fix small things out there. While they are convenient, the shape and size doesn’t allow a multi tool to work as a professional equipment as they lack power and may even break if put with large stress.

About Wave Plus and Charge TTi

Whether a multi tool will benefit you or not, it all depends on the type of tools you will be using often and this can be very subjective as not all of us will deal with the same activities and application or lifestyle. But, if you are here then it means a multi tool will deliver some benefit or pretty useful for your activities yet, rather than deciding whether you need one, choosing among the abundant of choices is what’s more complicated.

If you don’t want to consider all the options from all multi tools manufacturers out there, it is best to decide one or two brands so then we don’t have to get into all models and brands available in the market. When talking about multi tools, there are actually only a few names that come in our head and one of them is Leatherman. We are sure most outdoor enthusiasts are familiar with this brand because they are very popular and also the go-to of many people for their reliable qualities.

This brand has been making amazing multi tools for decades so they know what they are doing and this is the reason as to why people love their products and have been sticking with their releases even nowadays when other choices are abundant out there. When buying for a multi tool, the key is choosing the one with the type of tool you will be using often and for those who need a reliable knife, Wave Plus and Charge TTi are two ideal choices to consider.

Both of them are pretty much similar to each other in terms of what they can offer and the type of tools they are packed with. The Charge TTi is actually an older variant from Leatherman and it may be difficult to find the model now as they have the new Charge Plus TTi in the collection with supposedly more capabilities. Between the two, your Charge TTi will be more expensive because it seems to have better material as well.

Wave Plus and Charge TTi Design

As you can see from the sample picture above, Wave Plus and Charge TTi are coming with the same design and mechanism just like any other multi tools out there and in comparison the latter seems to be slightly heavier as well. Side by side the two are also about the same size and when in closed form, they are only 4 inches long. There are some tools that can be deployed when the multi tool is in close form while the longer tools are stored on the inside.

Personally we are used to this type of storing but for those who love a tool that can be easily deployed, do check our Free P4 Vs Wave here. The Charge TTi is boosted with a titanium handle and is supposedly lighter. This multi tool is not that much different from Wave as it seems they still use stainless as an internal construction that holds the housing. Overall these multi tools are looking robust and can last for years to come.

Wave Plus and Charge TTi Tools

The first thing we want to mention about these multi tools is always their capabilities and it is best to shop based on what tools you will be using. Here Wave Plus and Charge TTi are very similar as well with needle nose pliers, regular pliers, replaceable wire cutters, replaceable hard-wire cutters, electrical crimper, wire stripper, 420HC knife, 420HC serrated knife, saw, spring action scissors, ruler, can opener, wood/metal file, diamond-coated file, medium screwdriver, small bit driver, and large bit driver.

On the other hand, the Charge TTi is coming with needle nose pliers, regular pliers, hard-wire cutters, wire cutters, S30V clip-point knife, serrated knife, saw, wood/metal file, scissors, diamond-coated file, large bit driver, small bit driver, ruler, bottle/can opener, cutting hook, crimper, medium screwdriver, and wire stripper. These two carry a very similar collection of tools but the most prominent is that Charge TTi carry a cutting hook as well.

Wave Plus and Charge TTi Ergonomic

Now we want to talk about the convenience of these multi tools but, both Wave Plus and Charge TTi are using the same mechanism and they also put the same tools on the inside or outside of the handle. From the outside we can use some of their small tools such as scissors or can opener but when you need to use the blade then we have to flip them open first. This is also done to open their pliers but in general we do think they are working really well.

The handle is also a bit bulky which is surprising as we thought TTi should be thinner and lighter yet, there is no noticeable difference in handling between the two. Nonetheless, they are easy to use and quick to deploy without much fuss while the locking mechanism is very robust so that you don’t need to worry about reliability.

Wave Plus and Charge TTi Performance

The last part we want to mention is their performance and in general they are also about the same. What’s so different is the knife however, because TTi uses a S30V and as you may already know, this material is harder than the 420HC steel used in Wave Plus. It means the blade is able to retain a very sharp edge longer but a bit more difficult to sharpen once it gets dull unlike the 440. The blade also may not come with maximum sharpness from the company so we have to do it ourselves.

Wave Plus Vs Charge TTi

These multi tools are amazing for the convenience and reliability but both Wave Plus and Charge TTi are also very much the same to each other. The prominent difference between the two is cutting hook and S30V steel for the blade of Charge TTi. These two are probably better for those who will be using them but personally we adore the S30V steel for the latter’s knife as it is able to retain sharpness for long.
